A Vision Statement

MESA
  • endorses the development of a comprehensive standards- and inquiry-based Earth science curriculum
  • believes that students should be active, engaged learners
  • promotes the professional development of teachers
  • promotes the appropriate use of new technologies for teaching and learning.

MESA has four primary goals:
  1. create and sustain a state-wide community for the improvement of Earth science education, uniting the efforts and resources of diverse individuals and groups;
  2. develop and publish ideas for improvement, articulating how the Alliance and its members can help develop Earth science education in Massachusetts;
  3. create and distribute a set of Earth science teaching resources;
  4. provide high-quality professional development for teachers of Earth and space science that increases their ability to achieve the learning goals articulated in the National Science Education Standards and the Massachusetts state Frameworks.
